TATTINGSTONE CRICKET CLUB
1966 ONWARDS
A famous year , for football anyway. Tattingstone were not
winning a lot , but a very keen outfit was being built. Mike Cook
retires, and Eric Fuller fills the vacant bowling slot, taking 74
wickets. We play a friendly match on the World Cup Football
Final Day against Tooks at Bourne End. Would it happen today?
1967 : Mel Phair takes over the captaincy, for the first of a 17
year spell. Bowler shortage helps to convert Mel into a
bowler and along with Eric Fuller, they take over 70
wickets each.
1969 : Crisis point, a shortage of players puts the club close to
folding. Mel taps up the Ipswich West Indian community
and comes up with Lindsey Devenish. Tony Powlett,
Vere Bryan, George Williams and then the true gem,
Stanley Padmore, follow. The club is saved and is rarely
short again , as our new boys , had plenty of friends.

1970 : Stan Padmore takes 115 wickets. Kester Clarke takes
over as Head Groundsman at Tattingstone.
1971 : Steady improvement as new players blend in. Debuts
for Steve Porter, Gordon Riddle and Peter Sluce.
Mel scores 654 runs and Neil Elford takes 96 wickets.
1972 : Formation of Suffolk Cricket Alliance with 52 teams in
one large league. We do quite well with strong bowling
attack. Neil take a record 140 wickets and Stan Padmore
also takes 117 and even Kester picks up 40. Debuts for
Nigel Peartree and Chris Lea.
1973 : New Cedarwood pavilion erected alongside Pages Lane.
Teas were previously taken in the Village Hall. Neil takes
another 125 wickets and scores 815 runs. Debuts for
Paul Easton, and Adrian Peartree.
Kester and Mel lay three new pitches on Eastern side of
square.
More pictures taken in recent times of some 1970's stars.
1974 : Suffolk Alliance League spilt into four sections, we are
placed in Section D and win the league title. Paul Easton
scores 1,060 runs, the first ever "1000" by any Tatt.
player. Peartree Brothers shine , Nigel scores 981 runs
and Adrian takes 119 wickets.
First entry into National Village Competition. We had a
trip to Swardeston, near Norwich.
