MEMORIAM THREE

          There are a lot more  cricket clubs and cricket grounds that have been lost over

                the years. If you know of any more, I would be pleased to here from you.

HARKSTEAD   :    Played on a pitch opposite the village hall until the 1990's.

                                  P.Burman and A. Bromley are names that spring to mind.

HOLBROOK     :  Village team played  at the High School. Fell foul of league rules

                            by playing too many players from other teams, disbanded late 1990s.

                                                Steve Smith was the team manager.

HOLLIES          :  Civil service ground at Bucklesham Road, Ipswich home of Post

                            Office Research and British Telecom. Several other teams played

                            there useing the good facilities. Closed in 1990s with view to

                            sell for housing at a later date, which by 2017, still hadn't arrived.

HOLTON &        More commonly known as just Raydon, playing on the Raydon playing

RAYDON           field in the 1960s, prior to the start of league cricket.  V.Sowman was

                          a formidable hitter in that team.

HOXNE           : Small village team near Eye. Had a competitive team in the early days

                          of league cricket. Disbanded around 1985.

                          R.Barber, T.Jackson, Feaveryear were names that spring to mind.

HUMBER           The home of Browns Cricket Club for a number of years before being

DOUCY LANE : taken over by football.  Browns moved to Rushmere Sports Centre

                          and then merged with Tattingstone in 2003, to become Ipswich C.C.

LEISTON          : Had a strong team in 1980 and was a breeding ground for many good

                           cricketers who went on to higher things. Struggled for players in later

                           years and disbanded around 1990.

                           Colin Savage, Barry Spall, John Clinch, John Daniels, John Coleman.

MANN EGERTON : Company team from Ipswich, playing at Rushmere Road in the

                           1960s/70s.  The pitch, on the road leading to Rushmere was used

                            by a number of other cricket teams. Rugby is played there now.

                       

MALLARDS     : Resident at Cranes in Playford Road for many years until moved on by

                          Ipswich town F.C. Moved to Greshams in Tuddenham Road but

                          always struggled to attract new players and finally folded in 2007.

                          Russ Abbott, Mike Holland, Dave Howe, Roger Crick, Les Dorling,

                          Terry Procter to name just a few.

MENDLESHAM : Village team, certainly played in the mid 1970s, no other details.

MELTON           : As well as the St.Audrys club, Melton played on played alongside the

                            Woodbrige to Melton road up to about 1982.

NEWTON GREEN : Started off playing in the middle of the golf course, then moved to

                          an adjacent field in 1964.  Continued for a few more years after that.

                          Andy Marshall was the main man with Benton and Pearl.

MILDEN          :  Small village club, close to Monks Eleigh. Played on field close to the

                          church which was always sporting. The club played mainly friendly

                          cricket in the 1960s and are believed to have lasted a few more years.

                        After a break of many years, Milden C.C. have been reformed and

                                    resumed playing at their original venue in 2009.

PAULS             : Played at Stonelodge Lane, Ipswich for many years along with sister

                          club, Achilles. Ground sold for building and clubhouse demolished

                          in 2000. Achilles moved to St. Josephs College, but Pauls disbanded.

                          John Shorten , Lionel Green , M.Saunders, C.Stafford, A.Turner.

I.C.I                   : Stowmarket works team that played close to the factory useing all

                           the company's facilities. The site was developed forcing the cricket

                           section to move to St.Georges School, Finborough in 1990, but didn't

                           last much longer after that.

KIRTON            : Had a team  in the 1960s playing on the village playing field.

                           Reported to be able to field a team of  LAMBERTS.

LT. WALDINGFIELD :  Small village near Sudbury, that had one of the best pitches

                           in the 1960s.  The playing of football forced the team off the ground

                           when a football pitch was moved much closer to the square. Club

                           folded with some members moving to Cavendish

                           J. Pell, M.Fayers, K.Horsley, B.Mason were four of the stalwarts.
